Drum United has developed the Positive Mindful Drumming program for educational, well-being, creative and social purposes and is available here as an online tutorial course (E-learning). It's designed to improve your well-being, develop your growth mindset and enhance your musical and rhythmical skills as a new or improving drummer. You can view a free sample of the course at the end of this page, and enrol at anytime via the safe and secure payment method.
This program is suitable for all ages and is available online for everyone, everywhere. We've lovingly developed, designed, filmed and produced the program to suit all levels from beginner to advanced - those that never imagined playing drums, to the musically gifted.
Its a multi-disciplinary concept which uses positive mnemonics to learn and remember rhythms taught on hand-drums, on bongos, with sticks, household objects and as body percussion - so you don't even need a drum.
The program uses mnemonics and mantra (a linguistic pattern) which are a way of anchoring positive thoughts and affirmations. The physicality of tapping the rhythms help you to feel grounded and mentally well-balanced while drumming releases endorphins which makes you feel good. Together, the repetition of playing the rhythms and saying the mantra out loud or focusing on the mantra as your inner voice form a great program to meditate on and help develop mindfulness and a growth mindset.
The great news is that Drum United is a Social Enterprise and additional revenue is used to further our goals and increase our social impact. I was the founder of Drum United in 2012 and have since been facilitating our exciting, energetic and unifying drum and percussion workshops for companies, for communities, for the education and health sectors. I've led the development and production of the Positive Mindful Drumming program and I've first hand experience of the benefits and rewards drumming as therapy has to offer. It helps calm the mind and it helps release endorphins which makes you feel good.
I'd love to share with you the huge rewards of drumming and I strongly believe in the potential for everyone everywhere to develop their creative and transferable skills through drumming whilst improving their outlook and growth mindset.
I was lucky enough to learn the rudiments of drumming at the age of 9 and have since had 30 years of enjoyment playing drums and percussion. I've over 10 years experience working in education, and over 5 years experience working with business communities, and almost 20 years working in the events and creative industry.
I've played with choirs, orchestras, drum ensembles, dub / hip-hop bands and my drumming has been played on BBC Radio 1 (Huw Stevens and Rob Da Bank). I've played as a warm-up support for The Blockheads (UK), The Agrolites (US) and Palma International (UK) and I've played percussion in an orchestra onstage at the world-famous Royal Festival Hall.
I've developed my skills by attending workshops led by Dame Evelyn Glennie (the worlds first professional solo percussionist), Sir John Dankworth (Jazz icon), Steve Martland (Composer) and Sir Malcolm Arnold (composer). I'm a qualified trainer of Arts Award Discovery and Bronze (UK).
I'd love to be your tutor online and share my knowledge and creative skills to help you achieve the success that you'd like whether it is to improve your drumming and musical technique, and/or improve your mindfulness and well-being.
